Temple of Seti I
The Temple of Seti I is the biggest and most important of all the temples that were built in this area. Seti I was the father of the famous pharaoh Ramesses II, who finished most of the temple after his father died.

Abydos is about 2.5 hours north of Luxor. It is one of the most important religious sites in ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptians wanted to go to Abydos because they thought it was the way to the afterlife. Modern Muslims want to go to Mecca.
The reason for building the temple
During Akhenaten’s rule, which is known as the Amarna Period because of the instability and unrest. Seti tried to bring back belief in the Pre-Amarna pantheon, which the Amarna tried to destroy.
So, he built a temple with chapels for each of the major gods, including Ptah, Re-Harakhte, Amun-Re, Osiris, Isis, and even Seti.

People must go through a gate in the pylon, which used to be part of the temple complex, to get to the hypostyle hall. During Seti’s rule, the back reliefs of the temple were finished. They are some of the best Egyptian temple reliefs and are still in great shape.
Because it is hard to get to, Abydos doesn’t get as many tourists as other major tourist spots. People on tour buses and cruise ships often go to Egypt’s temple complexes. However, if you go at the right time, you might find the temple complex almost empty.
A new temple for Seti I was built about a half-mile south of the long chain of temples. The Great Temple of Abydos is the most famous building that is still standing. Because it is almost done and looks amazing. As part of the “Rite of the Ancestors,” ceremonies were held to honor the early pharaohs and show respect for King Seti I.
Seti I’s mausoleum temple has a strange L-shaped layout, and most of it is made of limestone. Sandstone was only used in small amounts. When Ramesses II took over as pharaoh after Seti I, he added his own style to the temple, which you can see in the cartouches he left behind.
